This year's award, presented during this year's Boston Early Music Festival, went to Sarah Mead, Associate Professor of the Practice at Brandeis University.

Sarah Mead is director of the Early Music Ensemble at Brandeis, which celebrated their 25th anniversary this past December with a concert by members and alumni.  Sarah is also an active member of the Viola da Gamba Society - New England.

The award is named for the legendary lutenist and educator Thomas Binkley, who taught at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, made ground-breaking recordings with the Studio der Frühen Musik, and  served as founding director of the Early Music Institute at Indiana  University. It recognizes outstanding achievement in both  performance and scholarship by the director of a university or  college collegium musicum.

The awards ceremony took place at Emmanuel Church on Friday June 15th, 2007 at the reception after the Ensemble La Rota concert.   Congratulations, Sarah!!
